Failure is a part of the process.
Every single successful person has a list of failures. In fact, that list is probably way longer than their list of successes.
Unfortunately, we live in a world that shuns those who fail and glamorizes success. This has created a society of people that are afraid to try new things because it means 1) starting at the bottom 2) dealing with the probability that the endeavor will fail.
However, if we don’t try, there is no innovation. There is no progress.
If you are fear failure, that’s okay. It means you’re human. I also want you to consider the following reasons why failure is important (and actually good).
- Failure is a sign that you’re actually doing something.
Famous hockey player, Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” If you’re failing, it means you’re actually doing the work. You’re putting yourself out there. You’re learning and you’re growing. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize those who are actually trying. I respect the people who get up every single day and go get it. They dream big and then make those dreams come true.
- Failure gives you feedback.
Once the initial sting of failure wears off, you have a huge opportunity to rationally look at your effort and analyze the outcome. What did you learn about your approach? What needs to be changed? Was there anything that worked? Can you ramp that up? If you reframe it, failure is simply learning what didn’t work – and oftentimes that’s more important than knowing what does work.
- Failure gives you an opportunity to decide who you are.
Though you may fail, you are not a failure. You were born to win and failure doesn’t change that. The idea is to not let the failure deter you or fool you into thinking that you can’t have what you desire. Failure gives you an opportunity to embody your beliefs and to emit a positive aura regardless of what’s going on around you.
(In fact, your aura is your most powerful resource and determines your 3D reality. We’re talking all about aura during the month of May over at Ataca Sergio Music House. It’s truly the secret weapon behind my career.)
The truth is that failure will either be a deterrent or a stepping stone to success. It all depends on how you choose to view it. You can’t have lasting success without having failure along the way.
Now it’s your turn. Leave a comment and let me and my team know how you’ll implement these ideas this week.
